an afternoon at the norton

one of our fun outings this summer was an afternoon spent at the norton museum. more naked ladies (and boys) for the girls to look at. ha! just a few fun pics as, of course, we didn't take any inside the museum. the girls especially liked the disney exhibit. messing around with daddy. at least this time it was OUTSIDE. yes, my husband and children were messing around INSIDE the museum right next to priceless picassos. we are such an educated and well-mannered family. (is that why the docent thought the little boy who was TOUCHING the paintings belonged to me and asked me to keep him closer to us so he wouldn't do it anymore? you be the judge.)

afternoon at the museum

today was a fun day! we took a trip to the boca art museum. the public libraries here in palm beach county are giving out free tickets to various museums in the area and this was one of the places we chose. the girls were a bit skeptical at first, but enjoyed themselves immensely. it was a perfect sized art museum for them. not too big and a variety of art to expose them to. painted art, photography, sculptures (and a really nice sculpture garden outside), and some neat pieces from africa, mesoamerica and china.

my favorite was all the photography. and they had a great piece by my fave artist george seurat. just a small one but it was nice. they also had some picassos and an andy warhol. trying to explain to the girls how cool all this stuff is was quite the challenge, but at least they were exposed. just like some of the naked ladies portrayed in some of the pieces that they were giggling and embarrassed about!

A Trip to the Science Museum

last week i took the girls to the science museum for a fun and air conditioned outing! we always have fun when we go there and this time was no exception. afterward we went to cheesecake factory for $1.50 cheesecake. (no pic since the battery on the camera died!) ): but we sure enjoyed the cheesecake! and we even had leftovers for dad.

this was some kind of scientific wind thingy that suspended this beachball in air. it had some really cool scientific name but it escapes me at the moment. i was never a science nerd. word nerd yes, but science no. but i do think it's really cool stuff!

okay this is a cool section with tons of brain teasers that we always try to figure out. most of the time we can do it, but the next time we go back we have forgotten how. this puzzle was one where you had to fit 6 blocks into this tiny square and we laughed because i jokingly said "watch gracie solve it in no time" and she did! no kidding! sarah and i were feeling pretty dumb after that one because she and i sat there for like 30 min trying to figure it out! are you smarter than a 4 yr old?
